Color Wheel - Why use a color wheel?

Using a color wheel will help a great deal with chosing and blending your painting colors for your paintings. Here is a super powerful tip for blending colors for your paintings.  If you want your color to be lighter don't use white unless you are wanting a pastel color. Instead, use a color up on the color wheel to make your color lighter. Example: To make your orange color lighter you will use yellow.  To make a color darker you will use a color down on the color wheel. Example: To darken orange you will use red.  Read about my color wheel class that is included in my Acrylic Painting Course. Acrylic Painting on Canvas

Acrylic painting seems to be the most popular medium in painting. That is what is most requested in my studio and online. Some people prefer oils because they feel oils are more blendable and dry slower. True,  though that is also one of the biggest complaints of oil painters is that their paintings dry too slowly not allowing them to work on their paintings for longer periods of time.  Advantages of acrylic painting is the paints dry faster often allowing a painter to paint and entire painting in just one day. Once you learn the secrets of how to extend the drying period of your paintings and how to blend your paint by using acrylic blending techniques you will fall in love with acrylic painting.  I have developed an easy, simple approach to learning acrylic painting that I know you will really like and learn a lot about improving on your acrylic painting skills. This method I have developed over the years with my in studio painting students. My students learn quickly and are amazed

What type of watercolor paper should I use?

Personally as a professional artist I want to use the best. Even though the price might be higher my paintings will turn out better and will last longer. I mean we put our time, heart and soul into our watercolor paintings. Right? I like to use Arches watercolor blocks. Why the watercolor blocks? Honestly, I don't like taking the time to stretch watercolor paper. Call me lazy! :-)  At least I am honest. LOL  Watercolor blocks just save a lot of time and also my watercolor paper is perfectly stretched.  I also like the Arches watercolor blocks because I like to layer my watercolor paintings. The Arches watercolor paper block allows me to make several layers without damaging the paper. So, have you ever bought the cheaper watercolor paper and the paper balls up on you while you are adding layers? Well, this is a sign of cheaper watercolor paper. ... And guess what? Those balls on the paper will dry looking like little balls on your paper. :-) In this blog post I am just letting you k

How to Clean Your Acrylic Painting Brushes

You know art supplies aren't cheap. By now I'm sure you know that. Right? So some simple acrylic brush care is important. One important care tip is to rinse your brush often. Don't let one brush have paint in it while you start using another brush and another color. Great way to ruin a brush! Water, water, water, rinse, rinse, rinse. After you rinse your brush let the brush lay flat on a paper towel. Never let the brush stand upright in your brush container until the brush is dry.  Never leave a brush in a container of water for very long. In this day and age we are all so busy with many distractions! It is so easy to forget a brush in a water container and if the brush is made of wood and has a painted coating on the handle you can easily come back in a few hours only to find that the paint on the brush handle is now all cracked and split.  Check out my Acrylic Painting Course. I have been teaching for years. I take my in studio experience and have made this easy-to-foll
